Successor II
Brett Salter
His words ring back like doppelganger echoes,
Of when I made these arguments my own.
It’s like debating a mirror through the twisted lens,
Of refracted time and split histories.
While I can’t help but notice the hair on his face,
In patches, like the silver on mine.
And the muted black-greys that hang in the closet,
Shout ironically louder; as chords struck.
The clock has stretched across me now.
Like sand spiraling through fashioned glass,
And dumping into my mouth, burying my words,
As perhaps my own father experienced.
These moments, mere blips, rise and fall,
Between twins born decades apart.
I’m gratefully tasked to physician an eagle,
Still innocent to this world’s gravity.
A reluctant dancer, but still my own savior.
A role he will never outgrow, outrun.
The same blue eyes that engineer pride,
And can turn my green ones to puddles.

My background in writing stems mostly from the inspiration I found as a kid when I read Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. These include The Chronicles of Narnia, The Xanth Novels, The Time Quintet, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and everything from Shakespeare to Dr. Seuss. In my formative years, I joined several punk rock bands and wrote songs, poetry, and short stories aplenty. As an adult, I took on a dare and wrote the first book in my Talisman Series. I loved the feeling it gave me and the idea of inspiring others so much that I kept writing until I had an entire series.
